Urrah Wins SDP Primary for AMAC/BWARI — A Historic Mandate from the Grassroots
May 24, 2026Democracy Day 2026: Hon. Engr. Olufemi James Urrah Celebrates Nigeria's Democratic Journey
Honouring the Legacy of June 12 and Renewing Our Commitment to the People
Today, as Nigerians across the country celebrate Democracy Day, we are reminded of one of the most defining moments in our nation's history—the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election.
Widely regarded as the freest and fairest election ever conducted in Nigeria, June 12 represented the collective will of the Nigerian people and demonstrated the power of democracy as a vehicle for national unity, justice, and progress. That historic election was won by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), making today's celebration especially significant for members and supporters of our great party.
Democracy Day is therefore not merely a public holiday. It is a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless Nigerians who stood firmly in defense of democratic ideals, constitutional governance, and the right of citizens to freely choose their leaders.
As we commemorate this important day, we pay tribute to Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola and all those whose courage, resilience, and commitment helped strengthen Nigeria's democratic foundations.
Democracy Must Deliver for the People
While we celebrate our democratic progress, we must also recognize that democracy is most meaningful when it improves the lives of ordinary citizens.
The true measure of democracy is not found only in elections but in the quality of governance, accountability of public institutions, and the opportunities available to the people.
Our citizens deserve leadership that listens.
Our communities deserve representation that works.
Our young people deserve opportunities to succeed.
Our women deserve equal access to economic and political participation.
Our families deserve security, quality healthcare, education, and infrastructure that supports growth and development.
These aspirations remain at the heart of the democratic project.
The Responsibility of Leadership
As the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Candidate for the House of Representatives, representing the AMAC/BWARI Federal Constituency in the 2027 General Elections, I remain committed to advancing a vision of leadership built on service, integrity, accountability, and community engagement.
My campaign is founded on the belief that public office is a responsibility, not a privilege.
It is a commitment to represent the interests of the people faithfully, advocate for meaningful development, and ensure that government remains responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.
This vision is reflected in our six strategic pillars:
- Youth & Employment
- Education
- Healthcare Access
- Infrastructure & Roads
- Security & Safety
- Women Empowerment
Together, these priorities represent a practical roadmap for strengthening our constituency and creating opportunities for future generations.
A Call to Democratic Participation
As we look ahead to the 2027 General Elections, I encourage all eligible residents across AMAC and BWARI to participate actively in the democratic process.
Collect your Permanent Voter Card (PVC).
Engage constructively in public affairs.
Hold leaders accountable.
And continue to contribute positively to the development of our communities.
Democracy flourishes when citizens participate.
Looking Forward
The story of June 12 teaches us that the will of the people remains the strongest force in any democracy.
As we celebrate Democracy Day 2026, let us recommit ourselves to the principles of justice, inclusion, accountability, and national unity.
Together, we can build a constituency that works for everyone.
Together, we can strengthen our democracy.
Together, we can create a future of opportunity, prosperity, and progress.
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.
